Bay Area Education Coordinator
The Tuolumne River Trust is seeking an Education Coordinator to oversee “That’s the Tuolumne in my Tap,” our education program for 4th and 5th grade students in San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda Counties.
About the Tuolumne River Trust
Founded in 1981, the Tuolumne River Trust is the voice for the River. We promote stewardship of the Tuolumne through: 1) education, community outreach, and adventures; 2) collaboration with a diverse array of stakeholders; 3) hands-on restoration projects; and 4) advocacy and grassroots organizing to demonstrate public support for our work.
In 1984 the Trust celebrated its first victory when it gained “Wild and Scenic” status for 83 miles of the upper Tuolumne River. In 1994, the Trust led an effort to derail a plan by the Turlock Irrigation District to dam the Clavey River – the Tuolumne’s most pristine tributary. In 1995, we played a major role in winning higher river flows for wild salmon runs in the Central Valley. And in 2008 we convinced the SFPUC to abandon a plan to divert an additional 25 million gallons of water per day from the Tuolumne River.

The program features a powerpoint presentation focusing on where our water comes from, the history and special qualities of the Tuolumne River, the animals that depend on the River, and what we all can do to help protect the River by conserving water.
Following the presentation, teachers receive follow up resources and information on home water audits, and students are given materials on water conservation programs and rebates to share with their families. This year we plan to include an essay contest as part of the program, and will coordinate with water agencies to promote school water audits and retrofits.
The Bay Area Education Coordinator position is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic team during an exciting period of growth.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Bay Area Organizer will:
Coordinate with teachers and schedule “That’s the Tuolumne in my Tap” presentations. Our goal is 400 classroom visits this school year.
Organize volunteer trainings and schedule volunteers to give approximately 200 classroom presentations.
Personally present “That’s the Tuolumne in my Tap” to approximately 200 classrooms per school year.
Assist with corporate and foundation fundraising.
Help develop other programs aimed at educating young people about the Tuolumne.
Support other Tuolumne River Trust programs when necessary.
Report to the Trust’s Bay Area Program Director.
Qualifications
We’re looking for a dynamic, passionate individual with strong organizational and communication skills who cares deeply about environmental protection and education. Other important qualifications are:
Proven ability to build relationships and work with people from different backgrounds and perspectives.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, the ability to see projects from conception to completion, and the ability to work independently as well as with a team.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and basic computer skills. Some website experience would be helpful.
Some background in environmental education and curriculum development a plus.
Some background in managing volunteers a plus.
Access to transportation to school sites.
Commitment to the Tuolumne River Trust’s mission, values and issues, and a dedication to, and passion for, the health of river ecosystems.
Salary and Benefits

help with a school garden in Alameda
Hello all,
I am looking for someone to help with a school garden in Alameda. I designed and built it last year, with the help of many of Merritt's permaculture students.
This is an elementary school in Alameda's west side. The garden is 2/3 native plants and 1/3 edibles. I have been the garden coordinator for the last two years (this is my son's school) but I am moving back to Brazil and won't be able to take care of it. What we are looking for is someone who would be available to give advice to the garden coordinator and help coordinate work days, maintenance, etc. Expect about 6-8 hours of work per month.
