BACKGROUND
PCL and the PCL Foundation have a diverse and supportive membership and activist base. This position will work with our Development Team to expand our membership and activist base and develop new outreach and donor giving methods. The Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director.

Essential Responsibilities of the Membership and Development Coordinator will be to:
• Implement strategies to increase membership through direct mail, planned giving, or other efforts in collaboration with the Development Team.
• Communicate with and activate members around the state or in targeted political districts through online tools such as Democracy in Action.
• Design and implement a new online fundraising program with the guidance of the Executive Director and consultants.
• Assist with the creation and management of events and donation pages using Democracy in Action.
• Coordinate database management and develop procedures to update and import records and make databases accessible to staff.
• Support the organization and staff with implementing special events, workshops, and major donor programs.
• Receive and process membership and major donor contributions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Youth Crew Program Coordinator, Richmond, National Park Service

I am writing to let you know about a unique and exciting new program for youth and opportunities for employment in Richmond, CA.

The National Park Service will initiate a new part-time youth crew program located at Rosie the Riveter / WWII Home Front National Historic Park (NHP) in Richmond, CA, begining August 2008. Six high school age girls will have the opportunity to receive paid experience in community outreach, media arts, and education under the supervision of a crew leader and a coordinator employed by the Student Conservation Association, a national organization that has led youth programs devoted to public lands stewardship since 1957.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Youth Crew Program Coordinator
Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt, Temporary (6 months, beginning August 2008)
Employer: Student Conservation Association (SCA), reporting to SCA’s Oakland-based Regional High School Program Manager
Location: Richmond and Oakland, California
Hourly Pay: $19.28 - $21.93
Summary: Responsible for developing a new part-time youth crew program that will engage six high school age girls in community outreach, media arts, and education work at Rosie the Riveter / WWII Home Front National Historic Park (NHP) in Richmond, CA. The Coordinator will work closely with SCA and National Park Service staff, as well as with Red Oak Victory Ship volunteers, and with Richmond Youth Media. This person will also be responsible for helping identify future partner agencies and potential funders to keep the program going beyond its pilot year. The position is part-time, from August 2008 through January 2009.

Hours: Hours are somewhat flexible, ideally averaging 20-26 hours/week in August and September 2008, then going down to 10-12 hours/week from October 2008 to late January 2009 (with some time off in late December). Primarily weekday business hours, but with occasional weekend or evening activities.

Responsibilities:
• Meet and plan with various partner agencies to develop a nine-month schedule of work, educational and recreational activities, and related resources for the crew.
• Establish goals and outcomes for the youth crew, based on the needs of the Rosie the Riveter/WW II Home Front NHP and the stipulations of the grant that is funding this crew.
• Help identify, interview and select prospective crew members, in conjunction with Richmond Youth Media, Richmond YouthWORKS, and local schools and Career Academies.
• Serve as liaison between partner agencies and SCA. Communicate with SCA staff as needed.
• Prepare crew leader and crew member orientation for mid-September 2008.
• Help develop evaluation surveys for crew members and partner agencies.
• Meet with city officials, school principals, potential funders, and others in the community to promote the program and its longer-term sustainability.
• Serve as back up crew leader in case crew leader is indisposed while crew is in session. This may involve driving crew members, supervising them at the worksite, leading activities, etc.
• Follow all SCA policies and procedures as required for the position.

Qualifications:
• Previous experience in youth program development /management, preferably in an urban setting.
• Experience in managing and/or establishing partnerships between schools, nonprofits, foundations, and/or governmental agencies.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• College or graduate degree preferred. Must be at least 21 years old.
• Basic computer skills – using Word, Excel, and the internet – required.
• Knowledge of the Richmond community, schools and funders preferred.
• Previous experience with videography or filmmaking preferred but not required.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and must pass criminal/driving background check at SCA’s expense. Ability and willingness to drive a 7- or 10-passenger van.

Deliverables:
• Draft written crew schedule and program goals/outcomes in consultation with Program Manager and Park staff by 9/1/08.
• Have selected six eligible and motivated crew members hired by 9/15/08.
• Complete written crew leader and crew member orientation agendas by 9/15/08.
• Ensure that program-related supplies, resources, speakers, etc. are in place prior to daily crew activities.
• Provide contact list and correspondence log of Richmond-based city officials, existing and potential partner organizations, school principals and teachers, existing and potential funders, and other individuals who may contribute to the longer-term sustainability of this project –by 1/30/09,
• Create written post-project survey for partner agencies and crew members by 1/30/09.

works for clean, safe, affordable water, the prevention of health threatening pollution, the creation of
environmentally safe jobs and businesses, and the empowerment of people to make democracy work. With its
more than 1.2 million members, volunteers and seasoned professional staff, CWA’s grassroots muscle has been
critical in shaping and strengthening laws such as the Clean Water Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act and the
Superfund for toxics cleanup. California-based accomplishments include the Bottled Water Right to Know
legislation, and an important victory to clean the San Francisco Bay from mercury contamination.
Clean Water Action provides recognized leadership on critically important environmental, health, ecosystem

renewable energy alternatives; wetlands, watershed and drinking water source protection; environmental funding
and enforcement. Clean Water Fund (CWF) is a 501(c)3 organization with whom CWA collaborates, promoting

CWA/CWF in California has enjoyed solid results in accomplishing its mission at its current level, and is now
poised for future growth with the guidance of a strong State Director (SD). Working with both a local budget, and
the support and collaboration from the national office, this is a perfect opportunity for a natural leader with an
entrepreneurial spirit to help CWA/CWF reach its full potential, with plans to grow to a $1MM program within 2-
3 years.
BUDGET & STAFF: The CWA/CWF State Director reports to the Deputy Director located in Philadelphia,
directly supervises 2.5 staff members, manages an annual budget of about $500K, and indirectly oversees 25-30
additional outreach staff and a total California budget of $1.5MM
BASIC FUNCTION: The State Director is responsible for the overall management of the CWA/CWF’s
programs in California including program and campaign oversight, management of personnel; leading strategic
planning & visioning; fundraising and public relations; and fiscal oversight and budgeting. Based on the
candidate’s qualifications, this role can be expanded to Regional Director, managing programs and staff in other
Western states as well. Regular travel throughout California and to other states supervised, and to occasional
national gatherings is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Specifically, the CWA/CWF State Director:
• Develops and oversees programs and campaigns, including legislative and electoral campaigns,
community and coalition organizing, policy development, and research and education programs.
Provides direction to local and state campaigns. Works in partnership with national staff to implement
local and state elements of national campaigns.
• Leads planning and implementation of strategies to build Clean Water Action in California.
• Provides leadership and is a mentor to staff and volunteers. Ensures the highest effectiveness of campaign
work and the attainment of established programmatic goals and priorities through team building and
effective management.
• Plans, leads, and helps execute fundraising efforts. In collaboration with the national office, the SD meets
and networks with funders and prospective donors and has major responsibility for helping to enhance
revenue streams.
• Provides program direction and support for field and phone canvass programs. Works in partnership with
canvass leadership to build strong canvass programs.
• Oversees administrative and financial management systems and strategies, including budgets and other
financial management tools.
• Represents Clean Water in work with other organizations, public officials, funders and the media. Directs
the marketing, public relations and promotion for all CWA/CWF activities, including, but not limited to
community outreach, and media relations. Establishes and nurtures relationships with businesses, elected
officials, media and others who can help support CWA/CWF programs and campaigns.
REQUIRED BACKGROUND:
-Passion for and commitment to the mission of CWA/CWF and environmental advocacy in general. Tell us about

-Minimum of 3-5 years experience in non-profit management as senior manager, campaign organizer or
equivalent.
-Proven ability to manage legislative campaigns and issues-oriented programs. Experience with grassroots and
coalition organizing and campaigns is highly desirable, as is experience with electoral campaigns.
-Experience with professional canvass programs is highly desirable.
-Substantial record of successful fundraising from public and private sources, including major donors, to support
local agency programs.
-Proven manager, motivator and staff leader. Enthusiasm, people skills, commitment, and an inspirational
leadership style are a must, especially for long-distance staff.
-Financial acumen including budgeting, and fiscal management.
-Exemplary communication skills including public speaking and writing, and an ability to network with
community representatives, business executives, foundation officials, donors, and the media.
-Enthusiasm for and desire to successfully build the organization; thrives on taking ownership of and growing the
local program.
-Ability to understand ones strengths and acknowledge ones weaknesses to then ask for support and/or delegate
those responsibilities.
-Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
COMPENSATION:
The compensation package is competitive. Final salary offered will be based on the applicant’s meeting job
qualifications, commensurate relevant experience, and specific roles and responsibilities assigned. Comprehensive
benefits package. Salary range: $65,000-75,000 annually, and will be reviewed regularly based on goal
achievement.
