ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT – PART TIME/TEMPORARY

East Bay Housing Organizations (EBHO) is the leading affordable housing advocacy coalition serving Alameda and Contra Costa Counties through its mission to preserve, protect and expand affordable housing opportunities through education, advocacy and coalition building. This dynamic non-profit membership organization includes more than 300 organizations and community leaders advocating for affordable housing development and favorable housing policies at the local and regional level. EBHO’s broad-based membership includes non-profit affordable housing developers, architects, planners, contractors, homeless and housing advocates, service providers, fair housing agencies, tenant advocates, community and interfaith organizations and activists, clergy and congregations, labor unions, environmental organizations, lending institutions, intermediaries and policy organizations, and city and county agencies and staff.

Job Summary: EBHO is seeking a part-time Administrative Support Professional for a duration of four months, beginning in June, 2011 and ending in October, 2011. The candidate will work between 16 to 20 hours per week, depending on office needs. The position will be filled by a skilled professional who will be responsible for providing support in managing a small fast-paced office and assisting staff and board in a friendly work environment. Day-to-day duties include: updating and maintaining EBHO’s supporter database; conducting mailings and email announcements; processing checks and making bank deposits; creating calendars of upcoming program activities; coordinating event and meeting logistics; trouble-shooting office equipment needs; and responding to inquiries from member organizations and the public. In addition, the professional will assist in the development of outreach materials (flyers, invitations, brochures, email blasts, etc.) and support program work as needed. The ideal candidate for this position is a person with excellent written and oral communication skills, who is detail oriented, committed to service and quality work, and who has a proactive and collaborative approach to working with their colleagues and the community. The Administrative Support Professional is a part-time employee supervised by the Administrative & Membership Coordinator and Deputy Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:
•General Administration: Administer employee health benefits; process employee payroll; coordinate and schedule meetings and events; provide administrative support to staff and board including copying, faxes, email notices, mailings, and drafting correspondence; and greeting visitors and answering calls.
•Finances and Record Keeping: Receive, process, and deposit checks/payments; process bills; prepare and track invoices; and provide monthly information to bookkeeper. Maintain paper and electronic record-keeping systems including financial records, membership records, payroll, tax returns, insurance policies, contracts, and multiple program files.
•Database and Communications: Maintain and update database records, including data entry, recording membership payments and other contributions, creating contact lists and generating various reports as needed. Coordinate mailings and email and website communications; respond to inquiries from members and general public; draft general correspondence; create contact lists for program activities; and update website as needed.
•Office Equipment and Supplies: Maintain and oversee telephone, voicemail, email, computers, printers, fax machines and other IT systems. Maintain adequate office supplies and postage, and organize and maintain storage areas.
•Program and Staff Support: Assist program staff with planning and coordinating meetings and events including EBHO’s Annual Interfaith Breakfast taking place this fall, and supporting other program activities. Draft general correspondence; assist in the development of outreach materials (flyers, web site, email blasts), prepare reports; research options for procurement of equipment and services; and complete special projects as assigned.
•Development/Fundraising Support: Assist in follow-up to EBHO’s Annual Affordable Housing Week Campaign taking place in May by generating acknowledgment letters to donors, members and attendees; prepare invoices for advertisement sales in our annual publication released during Affordable Housing Week; and assist with other projects as assigned.
•Support Membership Coordination: Assist in planning logistics for EBHO’s Annual Membership Drive occurring in the fall to encourage renewal of existing members and encourage the growth of EBHO’s membership base; assist in planning EBHO’s fall Annual Membership Meeting including event and meeting logistics; and assist in coordinating membership engagement and outreach activities.

Necessary Skills and Qualifications:
•Two to four years (one year with college degree) prior experience working in an office setting, program assistant or similar administrative position.
•Strong verbal and written skills to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
•Prior experience in handling finances; organizing and structuring office systems, files and procedures; and composing correspondence.
•Excellent PC computer and internet skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, on-line research.
•Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, and to multi-task on numerous projects. Prior experience supporting and coordinating with other staff.
•Well-organized, detail-oriented, flexible, patient, a quick learner and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and professional team environment.
• Commitment to racial and economic diversity, social justice, affordable housing advocacy and community organizing.

Preference to Candidates with:
•Knowledge of database management.
•Website, social media, and online communications experience.
•Prior experience with community relations and outreach.
• Experience in a non-profit organization preferred.

Compensation & Benefits: Part-time position (16 to 20 hours per week) with a salary range of $16 to $20 per hour from June to October, 2011. Health insurance and benefits are not offered with this position.

Child and Family Advocacy & Research Intern

Minimum Commitment = 12 weeks, 8-­‐10 hours per week
The Center for Judicial Excellence is currently accepting applications from qualified interns who are interested in helping the Center to better serve its constituents. The intern will work closely with the Program Director to handle calls from litigants across the country in need of resources and referrals to assist them in navigating their way through Family Court in a safe, expedient, and cost-­‐effective manner that maintains child welfare as the driving concern. The work will entail research, database management, and contact with clients.

Key Qualifications:
 Outstanding communications skills
 Experience with customer service
 Detail-­‐oriented team player
 Strong computer skills, especially in Excel
 Familiarity with Internet-­‐based research
 Strong desire to be of service to others
 Ability to exercise discretion, professionalism, empathy
 Experience working with victims of domestic violence and/or knowledge of the law helpful, but not required.

SF Bicycle Coalition: Hiring Temporary Communications Director

The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is looking for a smart, savvy communications professional to advance our work promoting the bicycle for everyday transportation. This is a temporary, contract position of up to three months during our busiest time of the year.

With the approach of two major, annual San Francisco Bicycle Coalition events — Bike to Work Day, May 12, and our Golden Wheel Awards party, June 15 — we are looking for someone who is, first and foremost, experienced and enthusiastic to design and lead our media strategy and outreach at this busy time.

The right fit for this role will be someone who can also oversee the Coalition’s ongoing communications work, including development of the printed newsletter; member email bulletins; website and social media updates; and graphic design oversight.

The right skills for this position include:
- Strong familiarity and experience working with local media outlets, including social media;
- Familiarity with Wordpress, Network for Good/Emma, Adobe CS5, Basecamp, Salesforce;
- Experience managing others, including volunteers, interns, graphic designers;
- Experience as a project manager.

While we could surely engage this position full-time, we are open to a skilled leader helping us get the job done in fewer hours – so consider us flexible. In-office time working directly with our team will be important. The position will report to the Coalition’s Executive Director and work closely with a talented team of staff, interns, and volunteers.

Occupational Health and Safety Advocate

Worksafe is a California-based organization dedicated to eliminating workplace hazards. We advocate for protective worker health and safety laws and effective remedies for injured workers. We watchdog government agencies to ensure they enforce these laws. We engage in campaigns in coalition with unions, workers, community, environmental and legal organizations, and scientists to eliminate hazards and toxic chemicals from the workplace.

General Description of Position: The Occupational Safety and Health Advocate will assist with Worksafe’s policy and advocacy work on occupational health and chemical policy, including media and communications activities.

Responsibilities:
- Lead role in coordinating work to promote safer chemicals policies, from environmental “green chemistry” laws and regulations to protective workplace exposure limits through new Cal/OSHA regulations
- Promote Worksafe’s legislative and regulatory agenda
- Develop and maintain media relations and respond to press inquiries; engage editorial boards, draft letters to the editor and press releases
- Research and develop fact sheets, comment on proposed laws and regulations; write and deliver testimony
- Assist in identifying and pursuing fundraising opportunities to expand our work in these areas

Qualifications:
- M.P.H. or J.D. or equivalent experience preferred, expertise in occupational or related public health area preferred
- Excellent analytical skills, political judgment, and oral and written communication skills
- A t least three years demonstrated success in progressive political advocacy campaigns and/or union/worker center organizing
- Strong media skills, including working with traditional and new media outlets
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to translate scientific and technical legal or regulatory issues for policy makers and the general public
- Experience in developing and implementing campaign plans
- Experience in coalition building
- Ability to relate to and inspire people in a variety of stakeholder communities
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently, with energy and enthusiasm
- Spanish or other bi-lingual skills a plus

• Provides resource sensitivity training to contractors.
• Performs recordkeeping and photo monitoring during contractor actions.
• Performs site preparation and maintenance as needed.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Position Overview:
• Ensures protection of sensitive natural resources, including federally listed species and their habitat during trail installation, infrastructure improvements, habitat restoration and other park enhancement activities.
• Works with Parks Conservancy supervisors and staff, National Park Service, CCNB work crew, and contractors to monitor projects.
• Monitors project operations including vegetation removal, installing exclusion fence, and infrastructure improvements.
• Provides natural resources training to contractors and park staff. • Documents project progress with photo monitoring to provide compliance report to NPS or
other regulatory agency such as U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. • Performs site preparation including marking ingress and egress routes and sensitive habitat
areas, burrow excavation, wood rat nest removal, surveying all areas for wildlife before contractors begin work, documenting wildlife disturbance, relocating wildlife to safe zones outside of work areas.
• Coordinates field work schedules while ensuring compliance with project compliance documents.

• Work is performed in an office and outdoor setting. • Over-night stays on Alcatraz Island are required to perform this job. • Work is primarily performed standing or walking. • Work requires squatting and kneeling. • Frequently lifts, carries and positions objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science preferred. • 2 years experience in habitat restoration and endangered species protection.
This is a non-benefitted, temporary position; qualified applicant will start work immediately and job will conclude on August 15th
Approximate work schedule: five full days of work the first week, followed by three full days the second week, and one-two days a week the remainder of the season. Shifts require over-night stays on Alcatraz island.
