Opportunity Description:

Golden Gate National Recreation Area, part of the National Park Service,
encompasses about 75,000 acres in Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo Counties
in California. The park has significant natural and cultural resources, including Alcatraz Island, Muir Woods, and the Marin Headlands. This is a great
opportunity to gain experience working with the National Park Service. This
position is only open to college students with current proof of enrollment.


The Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Technician performs a wide variety of duties that include but are not limited to: Assisting the IPM Coordinator in
performing inspections for wood destroying organisms on historic and
non-historic structures, inspecting various sites for signs of pest
infestations, writing reports of findings, and identifying a variety of insects
and invasive weeds. The Technician will also be responsible for assisting the
IPM Coordinator in conducting inspections of structures for pest entry,
presence and writing reports listing pest exclusion needs. Additional duties
include on the job training on how to conduct surveillance and monitoring of
vector-borne diseases such as West Nile Virus and Lyme disease using insect
traps, tick drags, mosquito larval sampling, tracking monitoring efforts using
GPS and GIS, instructing park staff and others in methods to control invasive rodents and other non-native species that may invade park buildings. The
Technician will also assist and learn about tracking and monitoring tree
diseases such as Sudden Oak Death and Pine Pitch canker. In addition, the
Technician works with IPM Coordinator and wildlife staff in management efforts
of invasive and/ or problematic wildlife; they will acquire skills in small
mammal trapping and safe handling techniques. Helps conduct research on
possible pesticide impacts to park resources, research of weed management issues, and other pest related issues. The technician will assist the IPM
Coordinator and researchers from UC Davis with on-going fly research on
Alcatraz Island along with NPS and Cornell University researchers conducting public perceptions of wildlife diseases. The Technician will also acquire a
basic understanding on zoonotic diseases and will learn how to handle injured wildlife and collect deceased wildlife for laboratory processing. This position pays $20.51/hr. We have funding for 3.5 months of work with a flexible start date by mid to late May. Potential for part time hours before
end of spring semester or in August and September.

Job Description:
Position has responsibility for coordination of all technical activities on assigned solar thermal and solar electric (PV) projects. Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates assigned engineering work; monitors work for compliance to applicable code, accepted engineering practices, and SLP standards; ensures effective communication and coordination on assigned projects between all disciplines and all other project participants.

Responsible and accountable to ensure that all assigned personnel are coordinating their activities with other project participants, and that the requirements of the contract are being satisfied. Expected to have sufficient technical knowledge and awareness of details to be able to recognize when technical problems are developing in the various disciplines, and to initiate appropriate corrective actions.

While on a project, the Project Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager, who has ultimate responsibility for both the quality of SLP's deliverable and effective execution of project assignments.

Project Engineer has day to day interaction with the project manager on assigned project as well as interaction with all internal departments key to the project.

Typical Duties:
- Design photovoltaic systems
- Design solar thermal systems
- Visit project sites before and during construction to evaluate site conditions (coordinate with project manager)
- Project engineering schedules and forecasts
- Work with other SLP engineers to develop new tools, calculators, designs, standards, and evaluate new products
- Coordination and checking of engineering deliverables
- Monthly status reports and change orders
- Analyze rate structures, photovoltaic performance and photovoltaic systems to optimize value for clients
- Analyze construction process, work with construction on installation specifications
- Design electrical and structural components of photovoltaic
- Design plumbing and structural components of solar thermal
- Prepare sales, permit and construction drawings using AutoCAD
- Assist the Sales Department in preparing the pre-design for photovoltaic and solar thermal bids
- Develop sales presentation materials for commercial, residential, and affordable housing solar projects
- Assist in layouts for presentations
- Explore engineering commercial markets
- Work closely with Blake, Engineering Manager and Gary, CEO on special projects
- Work with Sales Team to design and/or modify the system
- Act as a liaison between the Sales and Operations Departments

Essential Responsibilities:
- Responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating the technical aspects of projects
- Accountable for the success completion of engineering projects
- Requires extensive regular contact with assigned Sales Consultant and Project Manager
- Assist in the preparation of engineering project proposals

Education/Experience:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
- Minimum of 1 year experience with at least one of the following:


* Solar thermal
* Structural engineering

* Electrical engineering

- Obtainable knowledge through education and work experience is acceptable

Skills and Special Requirements/Licensing:
- AutoCAD highly desirable
- Experience in working with multiple discipline projects
- Excellent computer skills including using microsoft word, outlook, excel, salesforce.com, etc.
- California licensed engineer is preferred

The San Mateo County Fair and Festival is currently seeking a Department Coordinator to oversee and develop the new Green Living and Technology Department.
The Green Living Department will be emphasizing topics like recycled art, alternative energy, sustainable gardening, solar projects, green building, water conservation
and environmental videos. The Technology Department will be focused on featuring digital arts, robotics, science, web related content as well as multimedia materials.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Provide overall leadership for the department including facilitating monthly meetings, serving as liaison with fair staff, recruiting and training department team assistant and volunteers
- Develop a minimum of 10 new contests for each of the competitive exhibits department of Green Living as well as Technology.

- Recruit and solicit the community for new exhibitors and identify organizations/businesses/etc. who would be appropriate as a feature exhibit within the department’s exhibition.

Requirements:

- A track record of being involved in preferably both sustainability and technology projects.
- Experience in recruiting and managing volunteers
- Experience in special event coordination and exhibiting
- Enthusiasm for leading new initiatives

This position is compensated with a set stipend of $ 6000.00 that will require about 400 hours of work time from March through to August.
The work hours can be expected to progressively increase from 15 hrs monthly upto 100 hours monthly. The San Mateo County Fair and Festival dates range from August 15 to the 23 rd.
The department coordinator will set their own hours according to the fair production timelines and needs. This position is part time and requires working remotely with regular meetings at our facilities.
The coordinator will also need to be available to be present during the entire fair event dates. This position reports to the Fair and Festival Assistant Manager and the Fair Oversight Committee.

Primary Purpose of Position
Oversee grant giving of the youth investment program, including ongoing development and implementation of giving strategy and plan to meet the goals of the Council. This position reports to the Director of Youth Investment and is based in the San Mateo office.

The Stewardship Council is tasked with managing a $30 million program to provide connections to the outdoors for disadvantaged youth, and to provide infrastructure support for parks and open space areas within our geographic service territory (northern and central California).

Position Responsibilities

Oversee, manage and maintain all Youth Investment Program grant giving and administration, including fiscal and legal compliance with relevant due diligence, compliance, review process, and grant reporting and evaluation.
Oversee evaluation of foundation and grant award winner effectiveness.
Work with grantseekers and award winners on all aspects of the application process, from initial exploration, to application due diligence, to feedback on declined proposals, to year-end grant reports from award winners.
Assist with coordination and oversight of consultants to the Youth Investment Program.
Work with program director in public and stakeholder outreach programs. Build and maintain effective working relationships with agencies, organizations, and communities throughout northern and central California.
Assist program director with the design, planning, and implementation of Youth Investment Program stakeholder capacity building programming - including workshops, peer networking events, symposia, roundtables, and panels.
Work closely with staff to support and coordinate board and Youth Investment Committee meetings. Support board member education and decision-making process through well crafted presentations and guidance.
In association with the Land Conservation and Youth Investment Directors, work to create synergies between the land efforts and the Youth Investment Program..
Requirements

5-7 years in youth and/or education program management in California, or in foundation work specializing in youth development, outdoor education or similar fields.
Bachelor's degree in related field, Master's degree a plus.
Previous grantmaking experience a plus.
Proven ability to manage large, multi-faceted projects and work collaboratively with staff.
Demonstrated ability to work in a small team environment and with a broad range of individuals and organizations with diverse interests.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Positive, mature, and professional communication style. Strong skills in concensus building.
Desire to work in a start-up environment.
Competent computer skills required. Familiarity and comfort in the basic Microsoft Office Suite of software programs required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
