Bay Area Local Initiatives Support Corporation (Bay Area LISC) is seeking a dynamic, capable, experienced, and energetic individual to serve as Project Coordinator for the West Contra Costa County HEAL Collaborative (West County HEAL). The Project Coordinator position offers a powerful opportunity to integrate community health advocacy, policy, and on--‐the--‐ground practices to advance a highly visible effort.
The West County HEAL initiative combines health care leadership, community partnership and public policy strategies to redress the obesity epidemic and address the many health issues that can result from poor nutrition and inactivity. West County HEAL focus on long--‐term policy and organizational practice changes as well as programs addressing the immediate, direct, and multiple aspects of obesity in Richmond. The initiative is funded by Kaiser Permanente, which supports multiple HEAL initiatives around California.
Coordinated by Bay Area LISC, the West County HEAL collaborative is comprised of a number of nonprofit and public sector organizations working together. As the key HEAL staff person, the Project Coordinator works in close partnership with a collaborative comprised of community residents, nonprofit organizations, and public and private stakeholders to help craft and implement program goals.
Position Responsibilities
The Project Coordinator is responsible for overall success of West County HEAL and will oversee the general management, evaluation and administration of the program and of the West County HEAL program grant from Kaiser Permanente. The Project Coordinator will report to the Bay Area LISC Deputy Director and work from HEAL offices in North Richmond.
Specific duties include:
1)
General HEAL Program Management
Provide project leadership for the HEAL Collaborative goals and on-going operations. Specifically, ensure that the community health objectives of the HEAL Community Action Plan (CAP) are met and revise the CAP and budget, working with the collaborative members.
Facilitate both the HEAL collaborative meetings and committees as well as partnerships with other organizations, as appropriate, to achieve HEAL goals.
Oversee HEAL program grant-making to community nonprofit and public
organizations.
Act as primary representative of West County HEAL at related local,
regional and/or national convenings.
Make verbal and/or written presentations to, and network with, other
stakeholders promote and advocate for HEAL goals and work.
2) Project Administration
Establish and maintain effective operating processes for the HEAL
Collaborative, including meeting processes, budgeting, overseeing
consultants, and managing HEAL grants and subcontracts. Prepare
regular reports for LISC, Kaiser Permanente and others as required.
Prepare all communication materials, except for those handled by
contractors.
3) Evaluation and Assessment
Work with and support HEAL evaluators in assessing effectiveness,
identifying barriers to success.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will have experience in multi-faceted community health
and/or community development collaborative initiatives and will be highly skilled at
coordinating diverse organizations to work towards agreed to goals.
The successful candidate will also possess expert relationship management skills.
Familiarity with West Contra Costa County is highly desirable. Specific
qualifications include:
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred: preferably in
public policy, public administration, public health, nonprofit management,
environmental health, or a related field.
At least 3 years working in public policy, public health, advocacy, or
collaborative initiatives.
Group process facilitation experience strongly preferred, including the
ability to set meeting agendas and goals, manage complex relationships,
and resolve conflict.
Knowledge of obesity-related community public health issues and
strategies is preferable.
The coordinator will have informal and formal opportunities for professional
development, including peer--‐learning with both HEAL and LISC colleagues from
across the State and the country, access to conferences and trainings, and a work
environment that emphasizes inquiry and excellence.
