Groundwork Richmond Looking For Executive Director
The Groundwork Richmond (GWR) Trust in Richmond, CA is an exciting new non-profit organization dedicated to improving Richmond’s outdoor environment through community improvement projects. GWR’s initial work will be to help fully develop the Richmond Greenway – a former rail line becoming a walking and biking trail – into a shining asset for Richmond. Based on a Feasibility Study completed in late 2009, the following have been identified as priorities for potential projects:
•Greenway enhancement – engage neighbors, businesses, and young people in creating a vision and bringing it to life via a variety of improvement projects
•Youth stewardship, education and employment – establish a local Green Team to engage, train, and employ young people in environmental education, projects, training, and employment
•Urban forestry and greening – conduct a citywide inventory of potential sites for tree-planting, organize neighborhood planting parties, help establish an Urban Forest Advisory Council, and/or develop a local nursery to grow seedlings for local use
•Baxter Creek restoration and improvement – help to “daylight” sections of the creek along the eastern end of the Greenway
•Miraflores area planning and improvement – host community planning workshops in conjunction with planned development, help identify siting and use of historic buildings and greenhouses, and assist with creek restoration
•Park improvements – facilitate neighborhood involvement in planning for Greenway improvements, and work to create safe passages for young people between school and community settings
•Urban agriculture – fully develop the school and community gardens already established on the Greenway and helping to replicate these efforts in other locations
•Native plantings – incorporate the planting of native plant species in creek, park, and other outdoor improvement projects.The selection of actual projects will be determined by community interest, city priorities, partnerships, and funding opportunities. Projects along the Greenway will serve as models for expanding into the larger community over time. To identify and complete projects, GWR will engage and partner with community residents, youth agencies, the City of Richmond, businesses, and other non-profits. We will develop not only volunteer.

Work is evaluated on the basis of progress in the Accountant Intern Program, which includes but is not limited to Accounting, written and oral communication, computer proficiency, and human relations ability. Interns work with increased independence as professional competence is demonstrated. Current City employees who are selected to be in the Accountant Intern Program may receive an assignment in which to complete the Accountant Intern Program rather than appointments to Class 1649. The equivalent of eighteen (18) months of experience spanning a variety of accounting assignments in Class 1649 is required for advancement to Class 1652. Successful completion of the 1649 Accountant Intern Program qualifies the incumbent to participate in the selection process for class 1652 Accountant II. Failure to demonstrate professional competency, or the inability to complete the Accountant Intern Program, will result in dismissal from employment for employees in Class 1649 or cancellation of an assignment in Class 1649 for permanent city employees who have assignments to the Accountant Intern Program.
Essential functions include but are not limited to the following: records and processes a variety of accounting data into computerized accounting systems; analyzes transactions to insure proper recordation; prepares and maintains expenditures and budgetary control accounts; prepares reports on status of such accounts; maintains accounting records relative to payroll accounts, processes rate changes and payroll deductions; distributes personnel service costs to appropriate accounts; assists in the maintenance of accounting systems; reconciles internal departmental records with Controller’s and other agency reports; processes and clears encumbrance documents and vendor payment documents, assists in external reporting assignments as assigned. The incumbent must be able to communicate all phases of the Accounting Cycle to a variety of audiences clearly, effectively and will also perform related duties as assigned. Overtime may be required. Provide general office support, including copying, answering phones, and document production
Requirements
Must be currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies
Course work and/or career interest in education, environmental studies, conservation, youth outreach, or social sciences
Some administrative experience with filing, answering phones, copying, faxing
Ability to multi-task and interest in working in high-energy start-up environment
Team player with positive and warm communication style
Proficient skills in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook

For over 10 years, the East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy (EBASE) has been building power and raising standards for working families. EBASE forges alliances of labor, community, and faith organizations to pass laws that make work pay, to ensure development creates good jobs and community benefits, and to stand up against workplace discrimination and exploitation of immigrants and people of color.
Along with labor and community partners, EBASE is leading the Revive Oakland! Campaign for Real Jobs and Healthy Communities, which aims to secure quality jobs for Oaklanders from the massive Army Base redevelopment. Measuring over 200 football fields in size, this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity could put up to 8,000 Oaklanders to work, provide business with a skilled workforce, and revive our City as an economic engine for the region. Reducing unemployment and poverty and creating access to family-supporting jobs with healthcare forms the foundation for community health and for raising everyones quality of life. The project is being developed by a global, multi-national corporation, AMB, and their local partner CCG and will receive millions in taxpayer dollars. Too many times, Oakland taxpayers have invested in civic projects with private developers only to receive minimum wage dead end jobs in return. We are calling on the developer to sign a contract with the community that ensures the family-supporting jobs, training opportunities, and healthy communities we deserve!
This summer, the City and Port of Oakland will make key decisions that will affect this project and the future of Oakland. The Outreach and Mobilization Coordinator will work with the Revive Oakland! campaign team to bring the broad-base of support needed to ensure the City, Port and developers do right by Oakland. The Outrreach and Mobilization Coordinator will report to the Community Benefits Program Director.
The Outreach and Mobilization Coordinator will be responsible for:
Educating and mobilizing key constituencies to support the Revive Oakland! Campaign including outreach to individuals to support the campaign, securing organizational endorsements, and recruiting and coordinating turn out for mobilizations.
Working with base-building partners to support their members leadership development, including prepping spokespeople, translating policy into popular education materials and helping with trainings as needed.
Developing and implementing tactics, including direct actions, media, letter writing, and lobby delegations.
Supporting the overall work of EBASE as an organization, including participating in staff meetings and trainings, and helping with major program and/or fundraising events as needed.
Possible supervision of a summer organizing intern.
Experience and Abilities Needed:
At least three years experience in labor, community, political or faith-based organizing.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent personal organization and time management skills.
Experience with and desire to do coalition work.
Experience organizing in Oakland desirable.
Experience with development and land use issues desirable.
Commitment to social and economic justice and to building the labor movement.

This is a short term position through mid-August, with the possibility of extension. Outreach and Mobilization Coordinator short term position through mid-August
For over 10 years, the East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy (EBASE) has been building power and raising standards for working families. EBASE forges alliances of labor, community, and faith organizations to pass laws that make work pay, to ensure development creates good jobs and community benefits, and to stand up against workplace discrimination and exploitation of immigrants and people of color.
Along with labor and community partners, EBASE is leading the Revive Oakland! Campaign for Real Jobs and Healthy Communities, which aims to secure quality jobs for Oaklanders from the massive Army Base redevelopment. Measuring over 200 football fields in size, this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity could put up to 8,000 Oaklanders to work, provide business with a skilled workforce, and revive our City as an economic engine for the region. Reducing unemployment and poverty and creating access to family-supporting jobs with healthcare forms the foundation for community health and for raising everyones quality of life. The project is being developed by a global, multi-national corporation, AMB, and their local partner CCG and will receive millions in taxpayer dollars. Too many times, Oakland taxpayers have invested in civic projects with private developers only to receive minimum wage dead end jobs in return. We are calling on the developer to sign a contract with the community that ensures the family-supporting jobs, training opportunities, and healthy communities we deserve!
This summer, the City and Port of Oakland will make key decisions that will affect this project and the future of Oakland. The Outreach and Mobilization Coordinator will work with the Revive Oakland! campaign team to bring the broad-base of support needed to ensure the City, Port and developers do right by Oakland. The Outrreach and Mobilization Coordinator will report to the Community Benefits Program Director.
The Outreach and Mobilization Coordinator will be responsible for:
Educating and mobilizing key constituencies to support the Revive Oakland! Campaign including outreach to individuals to support the campaign, securing organizational endorsements, and recruiting and coordinating turn out for mobilizations.
Working with base-building partners to support their members leadership development, including prepping spokespeople, translating policy into popular education materials and helping with trainings as needed.
Developing and implementing tactics, including direct actions, media, letter writing, and lobby delegations.
Supporting the overall work of EBASE as an organization, including participating in staff meetings and trainings, and helping with major program and/or fundraising events as needed.
Possible supervision of a summer organizing intern.
Experience and Abilities Needed:
At least three years experience in labor, community, political or faith-based organizing.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent personal organization and time management skills.
Experience with and desire to do coalition work.
Experience organizing in Oakland desirable.
Experience with development and land use issues desirable.
Commitment to social and economic justice and to building the labor movement.
Accountability to goals and willingness to learn new techniques, ideas and skills.
Proficient at word processing, email, and web basics.
This is a short term position through mid-August, with the possibility of extension. Position requires use of an automobile and some long and irregular hours of work, including evenings and weekends as needed. Position open until filled and starts immediately. Salary range $35,000 - $45,000 annually, depending on experience.

Canvasser Team Leader for our upcoming June election campaign.

Army base development, and our long-term strategy for statewide tax
and fiscal policy reform. It would be great to have applicants who

Oakland Rising is a multilingual, multiracial alliance of social justice organizations that educates and mobilizes residents in lesser-heard communities to reclaim a powerful voice on the issues impacting their lives. We are currently seeking an individual who wants to work in the June Election Outreach Campaign’s paid canvass program as our Team Leader. The Team Leader will be responsible for managing a team of at least 12 canvassers who will be contacting thousands of Oakland residents through daily phone-banking and door-to-door contact.
The position starts Thursday, May 13th 2010 and will conclude on Thursday, June 10th, 2010. The Team Leader will work five to six days a week, with Fridays and intermittent days off. Lunch or dinner will be provided each workday. Interviews will be held on Tuesday, May 11th.
Hours: Monday - Thursday 2:00pm - 9:30pm
Saturday and Sunday 11:00am – 9:00pm
A detailed schedule can be emailed upon request.
Pay: $15.00 per hour
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Daily coordination of a canvass/phoning team of at least12 people, including:
• Preparation of materials and bags for walk/phone team.
• Daily convening of team to review assignments for the day.
• Daily debrief ensuring that team members fill out accurate Daily Reports.
• Accurate Daily Team Summary Report Form.
• Maintain accurate team attendance time sheets and report back forms.
• Tracking, generating reports, and quality control of phoning and walking outcomes.
• Manage team members performance and conflicts as determined by the Paid Canvasser Operations Manual.
2. Daily trouble-shooting with team members to train and improve results.
3. Daily Quality Control calls and reports to check team results.
4. Daily data entry of all walk and phone sheets from previous day’s walk into computer.
5. Meet with staff coordinators to go over plans/logistics for the week.
6. Support direct contact work (phones, door-to-door contact) when necessary.
7. Reports to Oakland Rising’s Field Director.
TEAM LEADER REQUIREMENTS:
• Car mandatory every day. No exceptions.
• Valid California Driver’s License.
• Ability to work 7-11 hours per day, five days a week.
• Ability to work well in a team setting.
• Physical ability to do lots of walking.
• Organized, On time, Positive Attitude, Accountable, Strong Leadership Skills.
• Management and coordination experience a plus.
• Previous Campaign Experience a plus.
• Spanish-English Bilingual a plus.
