The Pacific Institute in Oakland, California has established the Diversity for Sustainability Internship Program. This exciting internship program is part of the Institute’s commitment to furthering diverse perspectives both in our own work and in the critical fields of environmental sustainability and social justice. The program will bring emerging environmental leaders from a variety of backgrounds to contribute to our work under the mentorship of knowledgeable research staff. Interns will develop a deeper understanding of and hands-on experience with fundamental skills for environmental research and outreach and have the opportunity to make connections for their future success.

Diversity for Sustainability Internship Program Goals: The goal of the Pacific Institute Diversity for Sustainability Internship Program is to train the next generation of sustainability and environmental and economic justice leaders. The complex environmental challenges facing our society call for innovative and forward-thinking solutions from leaders who bring knowledge and expertise that traverse a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. The Internship Program seeks to provide each intern with significant and varied experiences to build skills in research, outreach, and leadership; to benefit from a committed mentor; to have the opportunity to network with other professionals in the sustainability field; and to accomplish a specific project(s) that also contributes to his/her resume. Interns will gain experience working in a nonprofit organization, including such tasks as reading and analyzing academic reports and other literature, analyzing data, writing reports and related materials, conducting internet research and field research, assisting in outreach, giving presentations, and connecting with others in the field.

Details:
 The Diversity for Sustainability Intern will work 20 hours per week for 10 weeks beginning in June 2013.
 Compensation is a stipend of $2500, valuable nonprofit work experience, professional development and mentorship from skilled researchers, and opportunity for references from a reputable organization.
Types of Project Work:
Varying from year to year, interns may be involved in activities such as:
 conducting primary and secondary research on health and resilience factors in local communities;
 developing and presenting summaries for policymakers and the public from the Institute’s research work;
 researching and writing case studies or success stories on a water-use-related or other environmental topic;
 evaluating existing technologies and web pages for development of online tools and mobile applications to improve social and environmental services;
 creating digital maps, analyzing data from public agencies, meeting with community groups for participatory research projects.

Qualifications:
The successful Pacific Institute Diversity for Sustainability Intern Program candidates will:
 Come from groups that are under-represented in the professional environmental field and research sector (for example, but not limited to, people of color; educationally, physically, or economically disadvantaged; women; etc.), and/or with life circumstances, experiences, skills, or talents that will enrich the perspective of the Pacific Institute and in the environmental sustainability and justice fields.
 Demonstrate through coursework or activities their interest and experience in environmental sustainability and/or social and economic justice.
 Be enrolled in an undergraduate program (especially at a community college or state university), or be a non-student with relevant life experience.
 Have strong writing and computer skills.
 Have a demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

Director of Marketing and Development, Boys & Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County

FULL TIME/EXEMPT POSITION

ABOUT US: Boys & Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County offers programs for children and youth during after school hours in 3 clubhouses and 2 school-based sites in South San Francisco and Pacifica. Our clubs offer dynamic, low-cost or free programs supporting academic success, leadership development, arts, technology, sports and recreation for members ages 6-18. Our vision for children and youth is that 1) Every child will have a positive sense of self, 2) Every child will be physically active every day, and 3) Every child will learn to read on time by third grade.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Director of Marketing and Development will be responsible for developing and implementing all aspects of resource development, marketing and communications for the agency. The Director will oversee marketing and development volunteers to assist in implementation of tasks.

KEY ROLES:
Grant-writing (45% time)
 Research, identify, write, and prepare grant proposals for submission to government, corporate and foundation funding sources
 Coordinate with necessary internal and external partners to gather information for grant submissions
 Develop and maintain relationships with key funders; develop innovative methods for regularly informing them of Club progress and activities
 Submit required reports to funders
 Occasionally oversee contract grant-writers

Special Events/Bingo (30% time)
 Provide direction for bingo games in South San Francisco (Sunday, Monday evenings) and Pacifica (Thursday evenings); attend at least one game weekly
 Supervise and work closely with Bingo Coordinator to develop strategies to increase bingo income and attendance
 Garner in-kind donations and sponsorships for bingo and other special events
 Coordinate Youth of the Year event in conjunction with program staff

Individual Donor Development (10%)
 In conjunction with Executive Director, support and provide training for Board of Directors in developing and implementing annual giving strategies
 In conjunction with Executive Director and Board of Directors, devise strategies to increase individual donations
 Oversee Donor Perfect Online database
 Develop innovative methods for regularly communicating with donors
 Thank donors in appropriate and timely manner

Marketing and Communications (10%)
 Oversee development of marketing materials for recruitment and fundraising purposes
 Oversee marketing and communications volunteers
 Develop regular content for website
 Oversee and develop content for social networking sites Develop and distribute press releases
 Develop and maintain relationships with area media outlets

Administrative (5%)
 Track status of grants and reports
 Prepare reports for Executive Director and Board upon request
 Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and other required events
 Other duties as assigned

A basic component of any coalition is effective communication. CFJC focuses on promoting not just our work but also the outstanding progress of our members and partners across California to ensure that their work is recognized. One of our primary goals is to connect the dots between what’s being done on the local, state, and national levels with local communities that are affected the most by food system disparities. The Website and Communications Intern will assist in website development, communicating the Coalition’s work online, and help expand our online tools to broaden our impact. Having a strong online presence allows CFJC to provide a space for our members, partners and the general public to share information on relevant campaigns, food policy, and any efforts to create a healthier food system.

INTRODUCTION

This is a Position-Based Test conducted in accordance with CSC Rule 111A.
Position Information:
Under direct supervision, the Public Relations Assistant manages and coordinates the SFPUC Citizens’ Advisory Committee by preparing meeting agendas, attending and facilitating meetings and producing meeting minutes and other documentation. In addition, the PRA will coordinate, provide recommendations and perform high-level analysis of the SFPUC’s social media programs, engagement tools and strategies.
Essential functions include: Conducts online research and compiles reports on social media platforms utilized for communication, public outreach and stakeholder engagement;  advises on strategic planning and implementation of social media campaigns to enhance public engagement and outreach outcomes for the agency; schedules, prepares meeting materials and facilitates evening meetings of the Citizen Advisory Committee of the SFPUC; schedules, prepares meeting materials and facilitates meetings of the Sub-committees of the Citizen Advisory Committee of the SFPUC; works with colleagues to identify key programs and project areas of the agency and develop advisory committee agendas consistent with those key areas, and with the scheduled activities of the SFPUC Commission; maintains computer files, databases and lists of relevant groups and committees and generates computerized reports; regularly posts articles and calendar items on the department’s intranet and public websites; answers telephones and e-mails, responds to the general public inquiries; participates in outreach events and activities; performs evening/weekend work as needed; and performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) year of experience performing duties in an agency or office that plans and conducts public relations program, publicity and public information.
